Delray sits in an unusual spot. It's a genuine year-round town with people who have lived here for decades, and it's also a place people arrive at in their sixties from somewhere colder. Those two groups need almost opposite conversations, and an agent who only knows how to have one of them will get the other wrong.
If you've recently moved here
Relocating to Florida is a qualifying event. It opens a Special Enrollment Period for Medicare, and it changes what your existing coverage is actually worth — a plan built around a hospital network in New Jersey does not follow you to Delray Medical Center. The window has edges, though, and they are firmer than most people expect. If you've moved in the last few months, that is a conversation to have now rather than at the next Annual Enrollment Period.
The same applies to life insurance you already hold. It doesn't lapse because you moved, but the beneficiary designations, the ownership structure, and whether it still matches what your family looks like today are all worth a second read. I do that review at no cost, including on policies I did not write.
If you've been here thirty years
Then the questions are usually different: what happens to the house, how the children are treated fairly when one wants it and one doesn't, and whether there is enough liquidity in the estate that nobody has to sell anything in a hurry. That's legacy planning, and it's a large part of what I do.
Why I lean toward Medicare Supplement here
A great many people in this area travel — to see grandchildren, to a place up north for the summer, or simply because retirement finally allows it. A Medicare Supplement works with any provider who accepts Medicare, anywhere in the country, which is why it fits this clientele so well. Advantage plans can be the right answer for some people and I'll show you both honestly, but I'll tell you plainly that Supplements are where most of my Delray clients land. You can compare Plan G, N and High-Deductible G here.
How I actually work
- In person or by phone. Delray is a short drive, so a kitchen-table meeting is easy. Plenty of people would rather do it in twenty minutes from the couch, and that's equally fine.
- No call center. When you ring, you get me — this year, and in ten years when the policy needs another look.
- No cost to you. I'm an independent agent paid by the carriers, not by you, and the premium is identical whether you buy through me or direct.
- Annual reviews as standard. Rates and plans change every year. You'll hear from me before enrollment season, not after it closes.
A word on local costs
Families often ask what final arrangements run in this area. Palm Beach County sits near the national averages — a full service with burial commonly falls between $8,000 and $18,000 depending on the cemetery, a cremation handled properly between $3,000 and $6,000 — but the spread between individual providers within a few miles of each other is genuinely large. Ask the specific funeral home for its price list before you assume a number. I'm happy to help you think through what's worth insuring and what isn't.
